The magic of Reiki

By Rupal Ganatra

Since being re-initiated into the magic of reiki a few months ago (my first experience many years ago being one which I could not connect with), I have been calling upon this beautiful non-invasive gentle healing modality on a regular basis; for myself, family, friends, and others.

What is reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

The benefits of reiki are numerous, some being:

Dissolves energy blocks and promotes natural balance between mind, body and spirit;

Increases energy levels;

Creates deep relaxation and helps the body release stress and tension;

Clears the mind and improves focus;

Accelerates the body’s self-healing ability;

Aids better sleep;

Reduces blood pressure;

Helps relieve pain;

Assists the body in cleansing itself from toxins;

Supports the immune system;

Helps spiritual growth and emotional cleansing;

Promotes creativity; and

Compliments medical treatment.

There are only three instances in which reiki may not be offered, these being:

  1. Permission has not been given
  2. After traumatic amputations
  3. Where compound fractures are involved.

Together with the amazing benefits of reiki, I find that the daily life principles of reiki have helped to ground, and support me greatly in life. These principles are:

Just for today, do not anger

Just for today, do not worry

Honour your parents, teachers and elders

Earn your living honestly

Show gratitude to every living thing

Remembering, and practicing these principles on a daily basis becomes a form of prayer, and meditation in itself. For remembering that thoughts become words, and words become actions, one becomes more intentional in the creation of ones thoughts and in turn, ones reality.

I feel so blessed, and grateful that the beautiful gift of reiki has been shared with me by my amazing mentor, and soul sister; Debbie Caknis. Reiki; a tool that one always has within to help heal self, and others that may need it.

My beautiful furbaby, Mili, is proof of the fact that reiki is calming and healing.
